PDFs & research papers
Save arXiv and DOI papers, read PDFs, and get page-cited insights from long documents.
#Saving a paper
Save a paper the same way you save an article — with the extension, the share sheet or Add a link. ReadingTrack recognises:
- arXiv links (abstract or PDF pages)
- DOI links (
doi.org/…) - Direct links to PDFs
For arXiv and DOI papers, the title, authors and abstract come from the paper's official record, so they're accurate before any AI runs.
#Paper statuses
Papers have their own statuses, which you set yourself from the item's detail panel:
| Status | Use it for |
|---|---|
| To Read | On your pile |
| Reading | Currently working through it |
| Completed | Finished |
| Revisit | Worth a second pass later |
#Reading PDFs
- On the web, PDFs open in your browser's PDF viewer.
- In the mobile apps, PDFs open in ReadingTrack's built-in PDF viewer, with reading time recorded.
PDFs don't get a clean-reader copy, so text highlighting in the reader isn't available for them. You can still add a takeaway and notes.
#Insights for PDFs
For PDFs with real text, ReadingTrack's insights cite the page each point came from, so you can jump straight to the evidence.
ReadingTrack doesn't run OCR. A scanned paper (an image of each page) can be saved and read, but it won't get insights.
The free Research Paper Formatter turns a two-column paper into a single-column layout with room for notes.
