Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about saving, tracking, privacy and the apps.
#General
What is ReadingTrack?
A private reading library that records the time you actually spend reading and helps you remember what mattered through short, spaced reviews. See How ReadingTrack works.
Is ReadingTrack free?
Yes. Saving, tracking, the library, highlights, review and export are free with no item limit. Pro raises AI allowances and unlocks extras. See Plans & pricing.
Which platforms are supported?
The web app, a Chrome extension, and apps for iPhone and Android. See where each app fits.
#Saving and reading
Can I save PDFs?
Yes — links to PDFs, arXiv and DOI papers. Scanned PDFs can be saved but won't get insights. See PDFs & papers.
Can I save from Firefox or Safari?
The extension is for Chrome. In other browsers, use Add a link in the web app. On iPhone, use Safari's share sheet.
Why doesn't an article open in the clean reader?
Some pages need a sign-in or are built entirely in JavaScript, so there's no copy to show. Use Open original. See Troubleshooting.
Can I read offline?
Yes, on Android: any article you've opened stays available, and the offline queue can download your next reads on Wi-Fi. Reading time recorded offline syncs later.
#Tracking and privacy
Does the extension track every site I visit?
No. It records time only on pages you've saved. Every other page is ignored, and your browsing history is never read or uploaded.
Why is my reading time lower than I expected?
ReadingTrack counts focused time only. It stops after two minutes of inactivity, ignores background tabs, and counts overlapping time across devices once.
Can anyone see what I'm reading?
No. Everything is private unless you choose to share a reading list. Shared lists never show your progress, highlights or notes.
What do Claude and ChatGPT have access to?
Only the ability to save what you ask, list your reading-list names, and add to your lists. They can't read your library's articles. Revoke access any time in Settings → Connected AI Assistants.
#Data
Can I export my data?
Yes, on any plan, as JSON. See Export your data.
Can I import highlights from Pocket or Instapaper?
Not currently. Imports bring links, titles, tags, archive status and save dates.
Are there webhooks or a public API?
Not yet. AI assistants can connect through the MCP server, and public reading lists have shareable pages.
