Moving from Pocket (or any read-later app)

Import years of saves, triage them without guilt, and pick up where you left off.

A big import can feel like a debt. This tutorial gets everything in, then helps you decide what's actually worth your time.

#1. Import everything

  1. Find your export

For Pocket, it's a .zip of CSV files or an ril_export.html. Other apps: see Omnivore, Instapaper, Raindrop.

  2. Run the importer

Go to readingtrack.com/import, choose your app, and select the file. It's processed in your browser.

  3. Wait for it to finish

Keep the tab open. Your tags and archive come along; original save dates are kept.

#2. Leave the archive alone

Things you'd already archived arrive as Archived. They're searchable, so you can find them again, but they won't crowd your library.

#3. Triage the rest by topic

  1. Filter by a tag you care about

Use the Topic filter. Your old tags are all there.

  2. Build insights for the promising ones

Imported items show Build article insights once your monthly allowance is used. Run it on the items you're curious about — the overview tells you in 20 seconds whether it's still worth reading.

  3. Move keepers into a list

Add the ones you want to read soon to a reading list, in order.

#4. Reconnect your habits

Replace your old save button with ReadingTrack's: install the extension and put ReadingTrack first in your phone's share sheet.

Re-importing later is safe

If you find a newer export, import it too. Items already in your library are merged, not duplicated.
