This guide gets you from zero to a working reading loop: something saved, something read, and one idea queued for review. You don't need to configure anything else to start.

#1. Create your account

  1. Open ReadingTrack

Go to readingtrack.com and choose Sign in.

  2. Pick a sign-in provider

Choose Continue with Google, Continue with GitHub or Continue with Apple. There's no ReadingTrack password to remember.

  3. Finish the short welcome

Tell us your name, then follow the interactive welcome read. It shows you saving, reading and reviewing on a real article.

Always use the same provider

Your library belongs to the provider you first signed in with. If you sign up with Google, sign in with Google on every device — signing in with GitHub would open a different, empty library.

#2. Install the browser extension

The extension is the fastest way to save from the web, and it's what records your reading time on desktop.

  1. Add ReadingTrack to Chrome

Install it from the Chrome Web Store, then pin it to your toolbar.

  2. Sign in

Click the toolbar icon and choose Sign in to ReadingTrack. Use the same provider as step 1.

See Chrome extension for everything it can do.

#3. Save your first read

Open any article you've been meaning to read, then do one of these:

  • Click the extension and choose Save to ReadingTrack.
  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Y (⌘ + Shift + Y on Mac).
  • On your phone, use Share → ReadingTrack.

Within a few seconds ReadingTrack builds article insights: a short overview, the key ideas, and a review question — each backed by a quote from the article.

#4. Read it

Read on the original page with the extension installed, or open the item in your library and choose Read here for a clean, ad-free copy. Either way ReadingTrack records focused reading time only. Idle tabs don't count.

#5. Keep one idea

When you finish, open the item and add Your takeaway — the one idea you want to remember. Turn on Worth remembering and ReadingTrack will ask you about it in the Review queue over the coming days.

What next?

Bring in your old saves from Pocket, Instapaper, Omnivore or Raindrop, then follow Your first week.
