Troubleshooting

Fixes for the most common problems with sign-in, saving, tracking, the reader and integrations.

#My library is empty after signing in

You've most likely signed in with a different provider than the one you used before (for example GitHub instead of Google). Sign out and sign in with the original provider. Each provider has its own library.

#The extension isn't recording time

  • Is the page saved? Only saved pages are tracked. Save it with Ctrl + Shift + Y.
  • Are you signed in? Click the extension icon; if you see Sign in to ReadingTrack, sign in.
  • Is the site excluded? Check Settings → Excluded websites.
  • Give it a few minutes. The extension syncs in batches every few minutes.

#An article looks wrong in the reader

  1. Re-extract it

Open the item panel and choose Re-extract article.

  2. Read the original

If the page needs a sign-in or is built entirely in JavaScript, there's no clean copy. Use Open original; with the extension installed, time is still tracked.

#An item has no insights

  • If you see Build article insights, you've used this month's allowance, or the item was imported. Choose the button when your allowance allows, or upgrade.
  • Scanned PDFs and pages with very little text can't be analysed.
  • Just saved? Insights take a few seconds.

#ReadingTrack is missing from my phone's share sheet

Open the share sheet, scroll to the end of the apps row, tap More, and turn on ReadingTrack. Make sure you've opened the app and signed in at least once.

#My import found fewer items than expected

  • Upload the export .zip as-is rather than a single file from inside it.
  • Items already in your library are merged, not counted twice.
  • Keep the tab open until the import finishes.

#Claude or ChatGPT can't connect

  • Check the server URL is exactly https://www.readingtrack.com/api/mcp (with www).
  • Check the client ID: readingtrack-claude for Claude, readingtrack-chatgpt for ChatGPT.
  • In Claude Code, make sure port 8765 is free, then run /mcp → Authenticate again.
  • If you revoked access in ReadingTrack, reconnect from the assistant's settings.
